SOFIA is designed for the parents of children (ages 6-12) who are newly prescribed stimulant medication to treat ADHD.
Parents receive SMS messages that include content crafted to help them support their children and address 3 key areas linked to non-adherence: forgetfulness, the complexity of treatment and misconceptions about ADHD.
By answering questions, users receive a customized personal experience that addresses specific needs. SOFIA sends reminders and educational messages about their child’s medication and treatment, how to handle daily activities, school, family relationships and ADHD in general as well as supportive messages.

Dr Joseph Biederman is the Chief of the Clinical and Research Programs in Pediatric Psychopharmacology and Adult ADHD, and the Director of the Alan and Lorraine Bressler Clinical and Research Program for Autism Spectrum Disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is a leader in the field of ADHD and related disorders.

[ OUR MOTIVATION ]
A prevalent neurobehavioral disorder, ADHD is very costly because of its associated complications when untreated and poor adherence to effective treatments.
Studies show that many of the ADHD Associated poor outcomes can be mitigated by treatment with stimulants. They are among the most effective treatments in medicine with effect sizes of 1.
As the leader in ADHD research, Dr. Joseph Biederman couldn’t sit idly by, he wanted to help. He saw tremendous potential for digital health technology to make a difference in the lives of children with ADHD and their families.
By utilizing readily available technologies, SOFIA aims to mitigate the barriers of successful ADHD treatment. Through daily automated SMS reminders addressing three key areas linked to non-adherence:
1) Problems with forgetfulness and lack of follow-through associated with ADHD itself,
2) The complexity of the treatment with schedule II stimulants, and
3) Misconceptions and biases about ADHD and its treatment

ADHD affects approximately 11% of children in the USA. It is one of the most treatable of all psychiatric disorders but it also has one of the lowest treatment adherence rates.
A champion of ADHD treatment, Dr. Joseph Biederman from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) teamed up with MEMOTEXT Corp and Partners Healthcare to create SOFIA.
SOFIA stands for Simple Online Family Intervention for ADHD and it aims to help families of children with ADHD better manage the disorder by addressing the key barriers to treatment management.
We believe, by providing parents with the right information and tools, adherence to ADHD medication and treatment may greatly increase, which can help create better overall treatment outcomes for children with ADHD and their families.
